Tonight we ran with a full orchestra (minus oboe and trumpet) — but Alan filled in the missing musical notes, in addition to conducting. He’s a talented man!
I must confess that we had a rather rocky performance — perhaps more so offstage than on. There was lots of good solid work and lots of focused improvement, but there were also occaisional rocks nontheless.
That’s not to say that the performers are not still stellar; the design is not still beautiful; nor that the cast and crew aren’t still giving it their all.
The production is indeed fantastic and the work which has gone into it is incredible. Right now I’m focused on finalizaing and tweaking many of the technical aspects and on clearing the way so that the performances can remain crisp and strong and continue to evolve.
We entered the theater earlier this week (was it really just yesterday?) with solid work behind us — well rehearsed, well prepared, and well informed. We have made many discoveries since then and have resolved many issues. And that process continues.
Two days? No problem.
