Slowing Down to Get it Right

We had an excellent run-through last night.  Many cast members are sick with colds; trying to prevent colds; or trying to get over colds.  So we were holding back and marking through the staging and also holding back vocally.  Something about this physical restraint seemed to allow everyone to calmly and clearly think about what they were doing. So cues were hit and spacings were sharp like never before.  Also, our recent work on many of the scenes paid off with highly structured, well-acted, well timed, finely nuanced performances.  This calm and cool approach to the performance has shown us that the structure is solidly there and that we know what we’re doing.  We’ll continue to refine and re-work over the next few days, and then we should be able to re-ignite that fire in time for opening.
