Spit and Polish

Last night we had a very productive rehearsal in  which we cleaned up both the Act I Finale and the Act II Finale.  We stopped when necessary to correct mistakes and to make certain everyone is moving on the same cues.  And we drilled some of the big choreographic moments over and over and over again.  Both these sections involve lots of comings and goings and many shifts in focus and energy; so unity in action is imperative if we don’t want it to devolve into a jumbled mess — which we don’t.  If we can continue to tighten and clean the staging at the rate we did last night, we’ll be in fine shape.

Tonight we are scheduled to run the entire show from beginning to end.  In addition to perfecting all the moments within the piece, it is also important that we start to settle into the overall rhythm of the entire production.  And a run-through is the best way to make this happen.  So we’ll run it tonight; then we’ll tear it apart and address problem areas on Thursday; then we’ll run it again on Friday.  This should get us into tip-top shape as we prepare to move into the theater for tech rehearsals next week.
